The GIS/Mapping Department is now in its eleventh year maintaining parcel tax maps using the latest in Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. GIS is a technology which uses geographic displays of maps with smart points, lines and areas. It also incorporates a data-base to store tabular information relating to each parcel. This allows for each parcel to be analyzed for correct valutation. In February 2007, Houston County was flown for updated digital orthophotography and 2 foot contours. This project will tentatively be complete by 2007. The final product will consist of digital imagery with pixel resolution of 0.5 feet for 100 scale mapping and 1 foot for 200 scale mapping. This project is being performed by Optical Geomatics from Huntsville Alabama. Our records are maintained daily. Daily maintenance includes keeping track of property changes using the most recent documents recorded in the Judge of Probate office, i.e. deeds subdivision plats and other miscellaneous documents. Copies of tax maps and aerial photography (photography years 1953, 1973, 1990 and 2000) are available for sale to the public from our office. We also have County roadmaps,. City of Dothan Metro Area maps, and small town roadmaps.
Our tax maps are maintained using ArcGIS from
ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute). |
