In Houston County the office of tax collector and tax assessor were combined in 1973 into an office of Revenue Commissioner.  The office of Revenue Commissioner handles mapping, appraising, assessing and collection of real and business personal property taxes for Houston County.  The Revenue Commissioner is also responsible for granting exemptions from taxes and collecting and disbursing taxes to the State of Alabama and County of Houston.
